Early Bird Transcontinental Net - KB1ZKG
The Amateur Radio Early Bird Transcontinental Net was founded December 5, 1949, for the purpose of sending military traffic in and out of the USA in war time. In 1975, it was made into a social net with the purpose of starting each day with a bit of congeniality and social comments.
The net meets daily on or about 3940 KHZ from 04:45 to 06:00 ET. Please join us!!! Ten check-ins within a thirty day period* qualifies you for a 8 1/2 x 11 inch “Certificate of Membership” from the Early Bird Transcontinental Net.
* This means you must stick around for the net and make a contribution to the net when called between the hours of 04:45 and 06:00ET. "In and Outs" do not count for the Ten Check-ins in the thirty day period.
PLEASE NOTE: OUR NET ENDS AT 6:00 AM AND IS FOLLOWED BY THE FLORIDA PHONE TRAFFIC NET.
BE SURE YOU ARE CHECKING INTO THE CORRECT NET.
IF IT IS AFTER 6:OO AM IT IS NOT THE EBTN NET.
Attention All Early Birds
Effective June 1st , the Early Bird Net will No Longer Accept “Early Out’s“ as part of our Pre-Net check-in procedures. Originally begun by Steve Hilton (KG4DKY) our Net Manager at the time a few years ago as a joke, it seems to have since then totally gotten out of hand.
After receiving several complaints from existing Early Bird members and having discussions with all of the Pre-Net and Net Controllers, it became abundantly clear that something needed to be done and ending the “Early-Out” was the only answer.
As the Net Controller one morning several weeks ago, I had more “Early Out’s” than regular check-in’s. This really is not fair to the regular Early Bird members who check-in early during the Pre-Net and get a low number, who then have to wait on all of the people who check-in with higher numbers but then take an “Early-Out”.
In the future, if someone needs to check out of the Net early in the mornings, they simply need to get and early/lower Pre-Net number. Otherwise they will need to take an “In & Out”.
Therefore, beginning June 1st, the “Early Out” again will be discontinued and not permitted. All of Pre-Net Controllers have been instructed to only provide “In & Outs” to those previously requesting an “Early-Out”.
Anyone wishing to discuss this further is welcome to contact me using the CONTACT US FORM.
